The 2010–11 season was a transitional yet successful campaign for Inter Milan, marking their 102nd year of existence and their 95th consecutive season in the top flight of Italian football. As holders of the Serie A, UEFA Champions League, and Coppa Italia titles, the team participated in all three competitions while also competing in the Supercoppa Italiana, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. Following the departure of José Mourinho, who left for Real Madrid less than a week after securing the historic treble, Inter appointed Rafael Benítez as head coach on June 10, 2010. However, Benítez’s tenure proved tumultuous. Despite winning the Supercoppa Italiana against Roma and leading the team to victory in the FIFA Club World Cup against TP Mazembe, inconsistent performances in the league and Europe saw Inter trailing in Serie A and exiting the Champions League at the quarter-final stage. These struggles led to Benítez’s dismissal on December 23, 2010. Leonardo replaced Benítez as head coach, revitalizing the team’s form in the second half of the season. Although they were unable to retain the Serie A title, finishing second behind AC Milan, Inter secured the Coppa Italia with a victory over Palermo, ensuring the season ended with another piece of silverware. Samuel Eto’o was the standout performer for the team, scoring 21 goals in Serie A and an impressive 37 across all competitions, solidifying his reputation as one of the world’s elite forwards. The season, though marked by managerial changes, further underscored Inter’s ability to compete on multiple fronts and maintain their status among Europe’s elite.
