The 2007–08 season was a milestone for Football Club Internazionale Milano, as it marked the club’s 99th year and their centenary celebrations on March 9, 2008. A day before the anniversary, Inter held a grand celebration at San Siro with fans and former players to commemorate their foundation. Roberto Mancini’s team began the season on August 19, 2007, by facing Roma in the Supercoppa Italiana, a match they lost on penalties. Despite this early setback, Inter secured their third consecutive Serie A title in a tightly contested race against Roma, finishing just three points ahead. The title was clinched on the final day of the season with a 2–0 victory over Parma, thanks to two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimović, who came on as a substitute at halftime. Ibrahimović was the team’s leading scorer with 17 league goals and 22 in all competitions. For Parma, this match marked their relegation to Serie B after 18 consecutive seasons in Serie A. In other competitions, Inter had less success. They were runners-up in the Coppa Italia, losing to Roma in the final, and were eliminated in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League by Liverpool. The European exit led to controversy, as Mancini suggested he might leave the club at the end of the season. Although he retracted the statement, Inter president Massimo Moratti dismissed Mancini in May 2008, shortly after the season concluded.
