The 2004–06 season was a transformative period for Inter Milan, marked by significant achievements and changes that would set the foundation for future successes. Under the management of Roberto Mancini, Inter aimed to reclaim their status at the top of Italian football. In the 2004–05 Serie A season, Inter Milan finished in second place, just behind Juventus, showcasing a competitive side that was bolstered by key players such as Marco Materazzi, Esteban Cambiasso, and the prolific striker Adriano. Inter displayed consistent performances throughout the season, with a strong home record at the San Siro. Despite their efforts, they fell short in the title race, but their determination and skill laid the groundwork for the following year. In the 2005–06 Serie A season, Inter’s fortunes changed dramatically. As the scandal surrounding Calciopoli unfolded, Juventus was stripped of their titles and relegated to Serie B, which opened the door for Inter to claim the Scudetto. The team, capitalizing on their rivals’ misfortunes, finished the season as champions, securing their first league title in 17 years. This triumph was marked by exceptional performances, with players like Zlatan Ibrahimović, who joined from Juventus, making an immediate impact. Inter clinched the title with a record of 26 wins, 8 draws, and just 4 losses, demonstrating their dominance in the league. Inter also had a solid run in the Coppa Italia, reaching the final, where they faced AS Roma. The two-legged final saw Inter lift the trophy after a tense battle, further solidifying their status as a force in Italian football. On the European stage, Inter’s journey in the UEFA Champions League was less fruitful. They reached the knockout stage but were eliminated in the round of 16 by Villarreal, which was a disappointment for a squad with high ambitions.
